Alpaca fibre is one of the rarest natural fibres in the world. Once reserved exclusively for Inca Royalty, this luxury fibre is 5 times finer than a human hair: It is said to be smoother than silk, stronger than mohair, finer than cashmere, lighter than wool and has been classified as flame resistant in the US.  The semi-hollow fibre has excellent insulating properties, and will wick moisture away from the skin, making it a natural choice for high-end thermal clothing. The small rounded scales on the fibres means that alpaca fibre is far less irritating than wool, and the lack of lanolin means that it is both hypoallergenic and does not require washing with harsh chemicals to remove this oil. Many people who cannot wear wool find that they can wear alpaca clothing in comfort.
